Wang, Qingsheng, PhD, PE, CSP
Dr. Qingsheng Wang is Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and Director of Safety Engineering Program at Texas A&M University. He was the inaugural holder of the Dale F. Janes Endowed Professorship and Department Head of Fire Protection & Safety, Graduate Faculty of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University from 2010 to 2018. Dr. Wang received his BS and MS degrees in Chemistry with Honors from Zhejiang University, and obtained his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University under supervision of Dr. M. Sam Mannan and Dr. F. Albert Cotton.
He has nearly 15 years of work and research experience in the areas of process safety and fire protection. His experience is wide ranging, covering process safety engineering, fire protection engineering, flame retardant materials evaluation, and reliability and risk assessment. Dr. Wang has worked for Shell as Technical Safety Engineer in Houston. During his stay at the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center, he was involved very closely with various projects from Dow Chemical, BP, and ExxonMobil etc.
Dr. Wang is a registered professional engineer in the state of California (PE # CH 6666) and a certified safety professional (CSP # 29944). During his tenure at OSU, he was named Big 12 Faculty Fellow and received Halliburton Outstanding Young Faculty Award. As the Department Head, he has developed a Master Program of Fire Safety and Explosion Protection, which is the first MS degree in the 80-year history of OSU fire protection. He has also developed a Joint Program with Southwest Jiaotong University, which brings OSU $2.5 million every year for the next decade. He is currently a member of the NFPA 18 and NFPA 30 Committees, AIChE CCPS Undergraduate Process Safety Committee, ASSP Technical Publication Committee. He is an active professional member of the AIChE, NFPA, and ASSP.
Dr. Wang has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal publications, 3 book chapters, 27 proceeding papers, and delivered nearly 100 technical presentations. His work has been internationally recognized and heavily cited, and he is one of the top process safety researchers according to publications from the Web of Science. He was recognized as “Outstanding Professor” by the US Department of Homeland Security and was included in Who’s Who in America. He is the invited reviewer for over 25 international journals and serves on five editorial boards. He received Certificate of Excellence in Reviewing from Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industries. He is the Subject Editor for Process Safety and Environmental Protection (Elsevier) and Associate Editor for Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (Springer).
Dr. Wang is currently leading an active research group focusing on multiscale process safety research. His research has been supported at a total amount of $2.8 million by the National Science Foundation, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-NIOSH, CAL Fire, Fire Protection Research Foundation, Big 12 Faculty Fellowship Program, China Scholarship Council, ASSP Foundation, OSU Foundation and various industry organizations.
