Wang, Qingsheng, PhD, PE, CSP
Dr. Qingsheng Wang is Professor of Chemical Engineering and George Armistead ’23 Faculty Fellow at Texas A&M University. He was the inaugural holder of the Dale F. Janes Endowed Professorship and Department Head of Fire Protection & Safety, Graduate Faculty of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Wang received his BS and MS degrees in Chemistry with Honors from Zhejiang University, and obtained his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University under supervision of Dr. M. Sam Mannan and Dr. F. Albert Cotton.
He has nearly 20 years of work and research experience in the areas of process safety and fire protection. His experience is wide ranging, covering fire and explosion dynamics, machine learning, flame retardant polymers, and composite manufacturing/processing. Dr. Wang worked for Shell in Houston and was involved closely with various projects from Dow Chemical, BP, and ExxonMobil.
Dr. Wang is a registered professional engineer in the state of California and a certified safety professional. During his tenure at OSU, he was named Big 12 Faculty Fellow and received Halliburton Outstanding Young Faculty Award. As the Department Head, he has developed a Master Program of Fire Safety and Explosion Protection, which is the first MS degree in the 80-year history of OSU fire protection. He is currently a principal member of the NFPA 18 and NFPA 30 Committees, member of AIChE CCPS Undergraduate Process Safety Committee and Loss Prevention Committee.
Dr. Wang has published over 190 peer-reviewed journal publications, 11 book chapters, 41 proceeding papers, and delivered nearly 100 technical presentations. His work has been internationally recognized and heavily cited, and he is one of the top process safety researchers according to publications from the Web of Science. He received “World’s Top 2% Scientists” recognition by the Stanford University/Clarivate. He was included in Who’s Who in America. He is the invited reviewer for numerous journals and serves on five editorial boards. He received Certificate of Excellence in Reviewing twice from Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industries. He is the Subject Editor for Process Safety and Environmental Protection (Elsevier) and Associate Editor for Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (Springer) and Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (Taylor & Francis).
Dr. Wang is currently leading an active research group focusing on multiscale process safety research. His research has been supported by NSF, PHMSA, BSEE, NASEM, OSHA, NIST, FAA, NRC, NFPA, CalFire and various industry organizations.
